Ghanaian comedian, TV presenter, actor, and event host, Derick Kobina Bonney, popularly known as DKB, recently posted a video on X where he revealed that he turned down a $200,000 offer to remain loyal to the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
during the campaign period. In the video, DKB emphasized the importance of integrity and loyalty over financial gain, saying, “A good name is better than riches. Choose LOYALTY always.”
He explained how the skit, which had been well-intentioned to highlight the benefits of a 24-hour banking system, was met with heavy criticism from the NPP.
He recounted how members of the MPP contacted him privately, explaining that they had to shoot down the idea because it would give hope to businesses under the NDC administration.
The political pressure intensified when the NPP offered him a large sum to switch allegiance.
“They were like, ‘You’re very creative. Why don’t you join us at NPP?’” DKB recalled.
Despite initially being tempted by an offer of $100,000, and later $200,000, he stood firm in his loyalty to the NDC, reflecting on the values his mother had instilled in him.
He recalled her words about the consequences of “crossing carpets” in the political landscape, referring to those who switch political parties for personal gain.
“I said no to $200,000. But integrity first,” he shared in the video. DKB also added a piece of advice for others: “Politics is a different ballgame. If you don’t have the ball, don’t come to the game.”
