Actor-turned-politician Prince David Osei has come forward to clarify his actions following a congratulatory message he posted on social media after the 2024 presidential election.
The post, which was initially well-received, quickly sparked a wave of backlash from social media users, leading to confusion and controversy.
Speaking an interview with the daybreak show host Andy Dosty on Hitz Fm Prince David explained that after posting a message congratulating President-elect John Dramani Mahama, he faced a barrage of insults online.
“After the election, I was really pained by the outcome, so I posted a congratulatory message for the president-elect, expressing my hopes for peace and unity,” he said.
“But shortly after, I started receiving a lot of attacks on Twitter.”
Prince David revealed that he handed his phone to his cousins.
“Normally, when the insults start pouring in, I leave my phone with my cousins or friends to avoid getting caught up in the chaos,” he explained.
“I wasn’t by my phone at the time. I woke up to see the news that I had allegedly insulted the president-elect, but I had no idea what was going on.”
“I saw people claiming that I had written offensive things about the president-elect, but I knew I hadn’t.
I immediately asked my cousins and friends, and they admitted that they had been responding to the insults on my behalf,” he revealed.
“My cousins were tired of the constant bullying and responded to a few people.
But when I saw it, they had already deleted their comments,” he said.
“Unfortunately, some people had already taken screenshots, and it quickly spread, creating a false narrative that I had posted the insults myself.”
“What happened was not my doing, and I want to make it clear that I was not the one behind those messages.”
