Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has finally addressed the questions surrounding her role in the recent elections, explaining why she chose not to actively campaign for her party after losing the primaries.
Speaking to the press corp in parliament, adwoa Safo made it clear that once she lost her seat, she was determined to step aside and focus on the national campaign, rather than remaining the face of the constituency.
“I did not want to still be the face of Dome-Kwabenya after losing the primaries.
I made it clear that I would be joining the national campaign team,” she explained.
According to her, the decision was about avoiding a situation where she was no longer officially representing the constituency, but people still saw her as its leader, creating unnecessary conflict.
“I didn’t want that conflict, and I chose my words carefully when I lost. I was clear: I’m going to be with Dr. Bawumia and support other constituencies where I can,”
However, the former MP didn’t shy away from acknowledging the crucial factors that influenced the election.
“We had indicators coming from surveys, and my father and the church play a huge role in this constituency,” Safo noted, suggesting that a deeper look into the role of these influential factors could help the party regain control of the seat in the future.
“People are just criticizing for the sake of criticizing. Once I lost the primaries, I made my position clear.
I’ve served 12 years in the constituency, and I’m confident I still have a lot of support, but I didn’t want to overshadow the new representative,”.
Despite stepping back, Adwoa Safo hinted that her return to the constituency isn’t completely off the table.
“It’s a bit early to say, but we need to look critically at the constituency and strategize. With the right moves, I believe we can win it back, with or without me,”.
“I did not want to still be the face of Dome-Kwabenya after losing the primaries.
