Haruna Iddrisu, the Member of Parliament for Tamale South, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the performance of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare.

Iddrisu, a leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), believes that the security arrangements during the election period were insufficient, particularly in key strongholds such as Nyangpala and Tolang.

Speaking in an interview, Iddrisu stated that the police’s handling of security issues in the run-up to the elections was subpar and may have had a direct impact on the outcome in certain areas.

He specifically pointed out that Nyangpala, a historically strong base for the NDC, was affected by security challenges that raised questions about the integrity of the election process.

“I am not satisfied with the performance of the Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo Dampare, during these elections,” Iddrisu said.

“We saw reports of weapons being brought into polling stations, which is a serious violation.

How can you go to an election center, a polling station, with a gun?

This is a clear sign that the security measures were not adequately enforced, which contributed to an environment of fear and intimidation.”

Iddrisu’s comments follow growing concerns over election-related violence and misconduct.

In particular, he emphasized the importance of ensuring that elections are conducted in a peaceful, secure, and fair manner, without the interference of armed individuals or groups.

The situation in Tolang, another key area, was also highlighted, with Iddrisu citing it as an example of how security lapses could undermine the legitimacy of the electoral process.

These strongholds, he said, should have been given extra attention to prevent potential violence that could affect the results.
