The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Boamah, who is also the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate for the area, has announced his intention to challenge the declaration of Baba Sadiq Abdulai of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the MP-elect for Okaikwei Central in court.
The Electoral Commission declared Baba Sadiq as the winner of the parliamentary election after he secured 15,323 votes, narrowly defeating the incumbent, Patrick Boamah, who garnered 14,949 votes.
A total of 30,332 valid votes were cast in the election, with 130 ballots rejected.
However, members of the NPP have raised concerns about the legitimacy of the declaration, claiming that it was made under duress.
According to reports, the collation center was locked at the time the results were declared, casting doubts on the process.
Boamah has vowed to contest the result in court, citing what he believes to be irregularities in the election process.
The NPP is expected to pursue legal action in the coming days.
