Afenyo-Markin, the majority leader of parliament has quizzed the NDC members of parliament on how they are going to raise revenue if they repel betting tax, E-levy, and Covid tax.
Afenyo-Markin noted that the NDC during their campaign also promised to reduce port duties.
He also asserted that the president-elect John Mahama promised to rule Ghana with just 60 ministers and wondered how many of the NDC MPs would be made ministers in John Mahama’s administration.
Speaking during parliamentary proceedings, Afenyo-Markin stated, “Mr. Speaker we are aware that this incoming government is going to implement the small chicks’ policy, the small chick policy is a social intervention program, and we are going to welcome it, but you say you are going to reduce taxes, you are going to repel the betting tax, e-levy, you are going to repel all these taxes, reduce the taxes at the ports, we wonder were you will get the money to implement the small chicks’ policy”.
Afenyo-Markin added, “We know, that you have promised a lean government, but you say less than 40 ministers, you see you can’t take it, now that we are coming to a minority be prepared you see you can’t take it, even if you flagbearer who is now president-elect says 60 we are going to see how many of you make it”.
“We are going to see, you said 60, 60 ministers and deputy ministers all-inclusive, Mr. Speaker, we are going to see how you are going to protect the public purse we hear from Hon. Seth Terkper that you cannot implement the Free SHS we await the outcome of your policies”, he added.
