Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama although is yet to be officially sworn in as President, Ghanaians are expectant of so many things from him, as they are looking forward for him to implement promises he made during the campaign period.
Although all promises made are deemed essential, the most critical for Ghanaians were some taxes he promised to scrap off when elected president.
These taxes are expected to be scrapped within the first 100 days of John Dramani Mahama being sworn into office.
These taxes according to John Mahama have imposed burdens of Ghanaians, affecting their standard of living.
The taxes he promised to scrap are; 10% levy on betting, emissions levy, E-levy, COVID levy and import duty on vehicles and equipment imported into the country for industrial and agricultural purposes.
Ghana’s are now waiting for John Dramani Mahama to fulfil these promises to the Ghanaian people, and will obviously take him on if he fails to do so.
The Electoral Commission of Ghana has officially declared the results of the 2024 presidential election, announcing John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as President-elect.
According to the Chairperson of the Commission, Madam Jane Mensah, results from 267 out of 276 constituencies show that Mahama secured 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of the total valid votes cast. His closest contender, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), garnered 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61% out of 11, 430, 531 vote casts
The announcement follows days of tension and anticipation as Ghanaians waited for the final verdict and after Dr. Bawumia conceded defeat. The total voter turnout was reported at 60.9%, with 11, 430, 531 valid votes cast out of the 18, 774, 159 registered voters.
