Haruna Iddrisu, the Member of Parliament for Tamale South, in a recent interview with TV3, addressed speculation about his future political ambitions, including the possibility of contesting for the presidency in the coming years.
When asked about his interest in becoming Speaker of Parliament, Iddrisu made it clear that he was not interested in the role.
“I’ve seen on TV today that people are even shortlisting me as a potential Speaker of Parliament. Let me make it clear: I am not interested in becoming Speaker.
Even in the 8th Parliament, some of my colleagues urged me to run for Speaker, but I disappointed them because I wasn’t interested.”
He further emphasized that, while the Speaker is an important position in the constitution, he is content with his role as a Member of Parliament for Tamale South.
Turning to the topic of the presidency, Haruna Iddrisu was equally candid.
“My eye is on the ball, but I don’t know about tomorrow,” he said.
While acknowledging that he may run for president in the future, “It’s also possible that I may not live to see tomorrow.”
He explained that, for now, he remains focused on serving in his current capacity as an MP and would accept any appointment from the President if deemed appropriate.
