It has been alleged that the Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Gifty Oware-Mensah is plotting an escape from Ghana following ORAL team receiving a file on the ¢500M NSS scandal.
The Chairperson of the ORAL team yesterday December 20, 2024 revealed that team ORAL received the full dossier on the National Service ghost names scandal which conservative estimates indicate has cost Ghana over GHS500million.
The information gathered from reports alleged that Gifty Oware-Mensah might be plotting an escape from Ghana to avoid accountability.
It has been claimed that her office have been threanting media houses not to publish stories that will tarnish her image. One Journalist stated, “We’ve been warned not to run stories on this issue. It’s an attack on press freedom,”
Gifty Oware-Mensah has so far not spoken or issued a statement regarding the allegations level against her.
Meanwhile, the reports suggest data of active NSS personnel have been inflated by 40,000 names. It is reported that the 40,000 ghost names are said to be working in state institutions and paid an allowance of GHS 715 a month and have been allegedly perpetuated for some 36 months.
The leaked information on social media also alleged that Gifty Oware-Aboagye oversaw the payment of these allowances into the accounts of the 40,000 ghost service personnel.
