Ernest Owusu Bempah, Head of Corporate Communications at Ghana Gas and Deputy National Communications Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has strongly criticized Ghanaians for voting for John Mahama in the 2024 elections.
Drawing from his extensive experience in the energy sector, Bempah warned that under Mahama’s leadership, the country will face a return of power outages known as “Dumsor” and severe economic difficulties.
“I know this firsthand,” Bempah stated. “Ghanaians will experience serious economic hardships, and they will regret their decision to vote for the NDC.”
Bempah’s comments come as concerns about the future of Ghana’s energy and economic stability under an NDC government intensify.
He reflected on the painful memories of Dumsor, which plagued the nation during Mahama’s presidency from 2012 to 2016.
During that time, Ghanaians endured frequent and prolonged power outages, a period that became synonymous with economic hardship.
In the face of these struggles, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the then running mate of the NPP, made it clear that the energy crisis was due to financial constraints, a point that resonated with many Ghanaians.
The power cuts were not only inconvenient but also deeply damaging to businesses. Many enterprises, both large and small, were forced to shut down, leading to massive unemployment.
Self-employed individuals, including hairdressers, ice kenkey sellers, and butchers, were among the worst affected, enduring the noise and disruption of generators running for hours across the country.
The cost of fuel for these generators was another burden on the population. The problem persisted for more than five years, leaving the nation in a state of dismay.
