US based Ghanaian social media commentator, Kevin Taylor has warned the Ghanaian community against relying on online news portal, Ghanaweb for their information needs.

According to him, Ghanaweb is not a credible news platform as its sole mission is to misinform Ghanaians.

He described the website as a tool used by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for their own intents and purposes, and also to skew public perception in their favor.

Kevin Taylor went on to describe Ghanaweb, one of the go to websites for Ghanaians as a source of news both in and outside the country as “a dangerous news outlet.”

“Ghanaweb is one of the most dangerous the NPP use to misinform and disinform Ghanaians,” a post on his X page read.

The December 7, 2024 election in Ghana was rife with misinformation and disinformation from the camps of both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The disinformation and misinformation saw new strategies as doctored voices and videos were thrown into the mix, sending waves of surprise and confusion amongst the Ghanaian populace.

The shocking part of all this was the fact that news portals regarded as credible also carried these news materials.

This saw the parties issuing out disclaimers to salvage the situation and reputation.

Now, the Ghanaian media has a lot to do in fighting the prevailing issue and misinformation and disinformation.
