The Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) is divided again over its endorsement of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, ahead of the 2024 general elections.
Earlier today, Jerry Addo, the Deputy General Secretary of the GFP, announced that the party had officially endorsed the NDC.
Speaking at a media briefing on Wednesday, December 4, Addo explained that the decision followed extensive consultations with the party’s leadership and executives.
He highlighted that the NDC’s policies,
particularly the establishment of a Women’s Development Bank and the abolition of academic fees for first-year tertiary students, were key factors influencing the GFP’s decision to support Mahama’s candidacy.
“The Ghana Freedom Party is supporting the candidature of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama on Saturday, December 7,” Addo stated.
However, George Afful, the GFP’s General Secretary, quickly contradicted Addo’s claims.
In an interview, Afful revealed that the party has not made any official endorsement of Mahama or any other candidate for the upcoming December elections.
He further emphasized that the GFP does not have a Deputy General Secretary and that they do not know anyone by the name of Jerry Addo.
