ACP Dr. Benjamin Kwasi Agordzo, a Senior Officer of the Ghana Police Service, has labeled George Akuffo Dampare as the “worst” Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Ghana’s history.
Agordzo’s comments come in the wake of ongoing tensions within the police service and broader political discourse.
During a national television interview on Tv3 on newday with Berla Mudi, ACP Agordzo did not hold back, describing Dampare’s leadership as deeply problematic.
“This is the worst IGP that we have ever seen in this country,” he declared, adding that Dampare’s actions as IGP have left the police service in a state of disarray and dissatisfaction.
“Can you imagine an IGP promoting people without the promotion board? Can you imagine an IGP transferring people without a transfer board?” Agordzo asked.
He further accused Dampare of using transfers as a tool of vindictiveness, citing instances where officers were moved based on personal relationships rather than professional criteria.
“If he sees you getting closer to a particular senior officer, he will transfer you.
Have you seen this kind of thing?” Agordzo questioned, expressing concern over the growing discontent within the force.
Despite his outspoken criticism, Agordzo denied any personal animosity toward Dampare.
“I don’t have any personal problem with him,” he said. “But I am just speaking the truth as I know it.”
“I can tell you that over 80% or not less of police officers voted against the MPP because of Dampare,” he said, revealing a significant political shift within the police force.
According to Agordzo, the dissatisfaction with the IGP has led to widespread disillusionment among officers, with many feeling depressed and fed up with his management.
