Kevin Taylor , a US-based journalist and founder of Loud Silence Media, has alleged that Gabby Otchere-Darko, cousin to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has acquired majority control in Melcom, one of Ghana’s largest retail chains.
Taylor made the claims in a post on his X handle, raising concerns about what he describes as a calculated move to conceal alleged stolen state funds.
According to Taylor, the acquisition comes amidst ongoing political transitions as the country prepares for the swearing-in of President-elect John Dramani Mahama.
He accused certain politicians of attempting to cover their tracks by allegedly diverting state resources into private ventures.
“Gabby Otchere-Darko, who has allegedly stolen lots of cash belonging to Ghana, is buying shares in major companies to hide the alleged stolen cash,” Taylor wrote.
Despite not holding an official position in the current government, Gabby Otchere-Darko has long been criticized for wielding significant influence over state affairs, earning him the nickname “Prime Minister” in some circles. This latest allegation adds to a series of accusations regarding his involvement in questionable dealings.
Taylor’s claims have sparked heated debate on social media, with some users calling for investigations into the alleged acquisition and others questioning the credibility of the allegations.
Neither Gabby Otchere-Darko nor Melcom has issued a public statement addressing the claims as of now.
