A video going viral on X (formerly Twitter) shows Farouk Aliu Mahama, the Member of Parliament for Yendi, who lost his seat in the just-ended 2024 December 7 general elections, delivering a speech that has sparked accusations of plagiarism.
In the emotional address, Mahama echoed phrases from U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris’ victory speech.
“My heart is full today. Full of gratitude for the trust you have placed in me, full of love for our country and full of resolve.
The outcome of this election is not what we wanted, not what we fought for, not what we voted for,” Mahama says in the video, striking a striking resemblance to Harris’ words from her 2020 election speech.
He went on to express his love for his family, saying, “To my beloved Doug and our family, I love you so very much. I am so proud of the race we ran and the way we ran it.”
Mahama also referenced his campaign slogan, “I get it. On the campaign, I would often say, when we fight, we win.
But here’s the thing. Sometimes the fight takes a while. That doesn’t mean we won’t win. The important thing is don’t ever give up.”
The speech, now widely circulated on social media, has raised eyebrows due to its striking similarity to Harris’ 2024 remarks.
