The Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom, Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi has revealed that every New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate spent close to GH¢10m on a parliamentary attempt.
According to Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, it is very painful to invest so much and lose.
He asserted that many NPP candidates had faith and felt they could win their respective parliamentary seats in the 2024 elections.
Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, December 14, he detailed, “On average, every NPP Member of Parliament who went into this battle may have spent close to GH¢10 million. From primaries to date. GH¢10 million on average. And that is because they had faith, and they felt that they could win. And like I said, I am not here to add to their injury. It is a very painful thing to invest so much and lose”.
“These are some of the challenges we have with our democracy. And I think that we may have to dial down. I was talking with Honourable Henry Quartey, and he felt that people were also demanding more than was doable from a lot of ministers. But who caused it? The promises were many”, he added.
Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party faced major setbacks in the 2024 parliamentary elections, as several prominent Members of Parliament lost their seats to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is basking in the glow of a resounding victory in Ghana’s recently concluded parliamentary elections. The NDC has reportedly a two-thirds majority in parliament after they secured 186 parliamentary seats.
