Ghanaian journalist, Manasseh Azuri has insisted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would have suffered the same fate regardless of who their Vice Presidential candidate was.
According to him, the Ashanti Region, a stronghold of the NPP not delivering the anticipated number of votes for the party is not over the failure of the Vice Presidential candidate of the NPP, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh to deliver, but the will of the people is what was experienced.
He noted that the bad governance and economic hardship in the country was suffered by every single Ghanaian, even those in the Ashanti Region, hence the failure of the NPP to win massively in the region.
“I think you’re overstating the failure of Napo to deliver votes in the Ashanti Region for the NPP. There were issues with his utterances and concerns about “his arrogance.” No two ways about that. But the bloodbath the NPP suffered in this election was nationwide. I have often said that the effect of bad governance is like rain; it doesn’t fall on only one roof. The whole country was angry. The hardship imposed by the wicked few who hijacked the government was felt everywhere, including Ashanti,” Manasseh Azuri posted on his handle in response to an analysis of Joy News blaming Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh for the failing to deliver votes in the Ashanti Region.
The journalist mentioned that the people of the Ashanti region were not going to “ignore their locked funds and haircuts and act differently because of a running mate from their region.
Manasseh Azuri added that even if the Asantehene himself, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was named the NPP’s running mate, the results would have been the same.
“I daresay that even if Otumfuo had been made the running mate, some people who felt the pinch on their bank accounts and businesses would not have been swayed,” he added.
