Media personality, Johnnie Hughes, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to cease its frequent press conferences and focus on declaring the results of the recent elections.
According to Hughes, Ghanaians are growing increasingly frustrated with the delay in results and are tired of hearing what he termed “unnecessary” updates from the EC.
Hughes speaking on his show compared the current situation to a broken sink.
He explained that while the EC’s press conferences may give the illusion of action, they are ultimately ineffective in addressing the real issue at hand – the timely declaration of the election results.
“The Electoral Commission must stop the unnecessary press conferences. Ghanaians need the declaration of the results and nothing else,” Hughes stated.
“The EC can tell us they are functioning, but in reality, the system is broken and needs fixing.”
“We put her on the pitch, but we can’t find the ball to kick,” he remarked.
Hughes stressed that the focus should now be on declaring the results in accordance with Ghana’s electoral laws (C.I. 127) and the will of the people, who braved difficult conditions to cast their votes.
