The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced a recall and reprinting of ballot papers for the Eastern and Western Regions following a reported leakage.
The decision comes after National Security alerted the EC to a single defaced ballot paper that had been removed from Checkpoint Printing Limited, the firm responsible for printing the ballots.
During an emergency press conference on Sunday, December 1, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa explained that the defaced ballot was initially marked for destruction but somehow found its way out of the facility.
She emphasized that Checkpoint Printing Limited has been a trusted partner of the EC since 1992.
As a precautionary measure, the EC has suspended the special voting exercise for these two regions, initially scheduled to begin on Monday.
Instead, special voting for the Eastern and Western Regions will take place on Thursday, December 5, just two days before the general election on December 7.
Jean Mensa reassured the public of the EC’s unwavering commitment to transparency and a credible electoral process, urging voters and candidates to remain calm and cooperative as the issue is addressed.
