North Tongu Member of Parliament (MP), Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has pledged that the incoming administration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama will repeal several taxes introduced by the current government.
Speaking to on Citi Fm, Ablakwa asserted that the E-Levy, betting tax, COVID levy, and emissions tax would all be scrapped.
He praised the Ghanaian people for giving the NDC a supermajority, which he believes provides the mandate to abolish these taxes.
“We are determined to cut expenditure,” Ablakwa said, adding that Mahama plans to appoint a lean government, with no more than 60 ministers, within 14 days of his swearing-in.
He also emphasized the need to rationalize government operations to eliminate waste and duplication, referencing the Auditor General’s report to support his claims.
according to him government would use the savings from a streamlined administration to offset the revenue lost from removing these taxes, which he claims have been causing severe hardship for Ghanaians.
“E-Levy will go, betting tax will go, COVID levy will go…”
