The member of parliament for Tamale South Hon Haruna Iddrisu has warned politicians not to take the electorates for granted.
According to Haruna Iddrisu, President Akufo-Addo and Bawumia’s rejection in the 2024 election must be a learning test for every politician.
He noted that Ghanaians told the NPP to learn to fight corruption and not to undermine democracy.
Speaking to the media he stated, “This vote, the rejection of Nana Addo and Bawumia, must be a learning test for every political officeholder and every politician that don’t take the electorate for granted. Don’t ever take the electorate for granted and Ghanaians do it silently and quietly without you knowing what is in their thought”.
“We have to pray for President Mahama to succeed, he will inherit a very challenging economy, particularly between 2025 to 2027 but he will weather the storm, he will have to address the growing unemployment rate in our country, and the 24-hour economy must provide some new opportunities”, he detailed.
The member of parliament further stated, “I expect him to initiate some major political reforms that strengthen some of our democratic and public sector institutions and he will do just that”.
“The Ghanaian people eloquently said Nana Addo and Bawumia stop undermining democracy and learn to fight corruption don’t run family and friends Government”, he reiterated.
Meanwhile, the EC’s certified results, Mahama secured 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of the total valid votes cast. His closest contender, Dr. Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), garnered 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61%.
