District Chief Executive of Denkyembuor in the Eastern Region has allegedly bribed teachers in the district to influence their votes in the December 7, 2024 elections.
According to reports, the DCE assembled all teachers in the district at the assembly premises, giving them all them Ghc300 each.
It is alleged that the DCE gave them the money to influence them in voting for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming elections.
In a video uploaded on X by @SIKAOFFICIAL1 the narrator can be heard saying “the DCE has called all teachers to the district assembly and giving them Ghc300 each in a bid to rig the election. This is Akwatia in the Denkyembuor district. Those you can see there are teachers. They are taking Ghc300 from the DCE. Every single teacher in the district has been asked to come for some of the money.
Denkyembour District is one of the thirty-three districts in Eastern Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Kwaebibirem District in 1988, which was created from the former West Akim District Council.
However, on 6 February 2012 (effectively 28 June 2012), the southern part of the district was split off to create Denkyembour District; thus the remaining part has been retained as Kwaebibirem District, which it was elevated to municipal district assembly status on 15 March 2018 to become Kwaebibirem Municipal District.
The district assembly is located in the southern part of Eastern Region and has Akwatia as its capital town.
District Chief Executive Officer (DCE) of Denkyembour, Seth Birikorang Ofosu, is well known for being embroiled in one controversy or another, and according to reports, it is not the first time the DCE is engaging in such corrupt practices.
