The Circuit Court in Accra has sentenced the Sowutuom Branch Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to 10 years of imprisonment.
Mohammed Ibrahim, popularly known as Commander Kanawu has been jailed 10 years for inciting violence and disseminating false information in this viral video.
He was found guilty by an Accra Circuit court presided over by Mrs. Evelyn Asamoah.
Commander Kanawu pleaded not guilty and was sentenced to three years for the publication of false news, four years for the threat to harm, and a three-year sentence for offensive conduct.
Commander Kanawu in a viral video accused the Interior Minister and the IGP of falsely recruiting individuals into the police to influence the elections. He threatened to shoot and harm some public officials, including IGP Akuffo Dampare, Interior Minister Henry Quartey, Electoral Commission boss Madam Jean Mensah, and others.
He warned these public officials, declared 2024 as ‘All Die be Die,’ and dared them to arrest him.
On September 10, 2024, the Ghana Police Service declared him wanted with a reward of GHS50,000 for anyone who could assist with information leading to his arrest.
He was later arrested and a red beret he wore in the viral video was recovered at his residence at Sowutuom.
