Ghanaian social media platforms have applauded a suggestion made by a social media user concerning the soon-to-be-launched anti-corruption policy, Operation Recover All Loot (O.R.A.L), by President-Elect John Dramani Mahama.
The user, identified as Barnabas Nii Laryea, in a recent Facebook post, urged the incoming NDC government to involve ordinary citizens in uncovering corrupt practices carried out by political actors.
He proposed a system of strict anonymity that assigns each tip-off a unique code, which can be used to file reports on corrupt activities. If the report leads to credible evidence resulting in successful prosecution and recovery of stolen assets, the whistleblower would receive a reward.
Laryea emphasized that this approach could encourage greater public participation in the fight against corruption. “I think we should commercialize the ORAL so bystanders can save the nation and also save their stomach infrastructure too,” he remarked.
The ORAL initiative, aimed at recovering state properties and assets from corrupt officials, was announced as the Operation Recover All Loot policy during Mahama’s 2024 presidential campaign.
“People who don’t understand what I am saying, should look at like there are drivers, househelps, personal assistants and bodyguards who have documents who might want an outlet to do so but will be scared to…..”
“This is such a fine opportunity to enable them speak up. Imagine a Minister of a previous administ
ration hoarding $70million at home when people are struggling in this country.”
“Someone can speak up,” portions of his post read.
