Violent confrontations between supporters of the NPP and NDC in Akumadan, located in the Offinso North Municipality of the Ashanti Region, over the distribution of approximately 2,000 bags of fertilizer, resulted in the deaths of three individuals on Monday, December 9, 2024.
The tragedy occurred at Nkramom in Akumadan when a group of young men, identified as NDC supporters, demanded the keys to a cocoa weighing center and a storage facility where the fertilizers were being kept.
Eyewitnesses reported that the group, described as “thugs,” forcefully broke into the storage room after the caretaker of the facility refused to hand over the keys. In response, NPP supporters, having received a tip-off, reportedly mobilized and marched to the scene for a counterattack, escalating the situation into violent clashes.
Mr. Kwaku Yeboah, the caretaker of the facility, and his wife, Akua Afriyie, recounted their ordeal to journalists, describing how the violence erupted.
Meanwhile, NDC Parliamentary candidate Caesar Ofosu Acheampong condemned the violent incident, which mirrored an earlier disturbance at the constituency collation center on Sunday, December 8, 2024, where some angry NDC supporters invaded the district police headquarters.
Addressing the crowd after the announcement of the parliamentary results, Mr. Acheampong urged his disappointed supporters to remain calm, advising them to reflect on their voting choices, which he claimed contributed to his defeat to CTVET boss Fred Kyei Asamoah in the 2024 elections.
