Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, has called on health workers, media practitioners, and security personnel to vote for him during the special voting exercise on Monday, December 2, ahead of the December 7 general election.
This year, 131,478 voters are expected to cast their ballots across 328 special voting centers nationwide.
In a campaign message directed at these key groups, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the strides made by the NPP government in their respective sectors over the past eight years.
For the security services, he noted, “The Ghana Police Service now has over 46,000 officers—nearly 13,000 more than we inherited.” He also highlighted the doubling of personnel in the Fire Service to 15,000 and the expansion of staff in the Prisons and Immigration Services.
Infrastructure improvements, he said, include adding over 900 vehicles, three helicopters, and 11,000 surveillance cameras for the police. He also touted investments in housing with the construction of new barracks and housing units for personnel.
Dr. Bawumia lauded the government’s role in resolving the Dagbon chieftaincy conflict and pledged to further enhance border security by deploying 50,000 cameras and recruiting 20,000 additional security officers.
Addressing the media, he emphasized the passage of the Right to Information (RTI) law and the establishment of the University of Media, Arts, and Communication (UniMAC) as milestones in strengthening the media landscape. He also highlighted advancements in broadband services and the introduction of 5G technology to enhance journalism.
On health, he reiterated the government’s commitment to completing the Agenda 111 hospital project and expanding the Zipline drone service for medical deliveries.
“I humbly ask for your support to continue the good work we have begun. When you go to the voting booth, vote for me,” Dr. Bawumia concluded.
