Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam Constituency in the Central Region on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has been rumored to be the Finance Minister in President-elect, John Dramani Mahama’s government.
Dr. Ato Forson who served as the Deputy Minister of Finance in 2013, is tipped to be the forerunner of names, including Seth Terkper who was Ato Forson’s boss during his tenure as Deputy Finance Minister.
Former Bank of Ghana (BoG) boss, Dr. Nashiru Issahaku is also said to be in the running for the post as well. Dr. Issahaku was forced to resign in 2017 after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) took over the reign of government when he was just a year into serving his four-year term. He was replaced with the current BoG boss, Dr. Ernest Addison.
President-elect in the December 7, 2024, general elections, John Dramani Mahama, has in accordance with the provisions of the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (ACT 845), appointed the following personalities as members of the 2024 Transition Team.
The team will work closely with representatives of the outgoing government with a view to ensuring a smooth transfer of political power to the incoming administration.
The Transition Team is composed of experienced individuals drawn from various sectors, including finance, governance, and public administration.
The appointed members of the joint transition team, representing the NDC include Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
The transition team by convention is supposed to have a shadow Finance Minister from the incoming government, hence, the inclusion of Dr. Ato Forson is an indication of why rumors of he being the next Finance Minister of Ghana have heightened.
However, many in the Ghanaian political space and the NDC may be quite disappointed if John Dramani Mahama appoints Dr. Ato Forson as Finance Minister over the likes of Seth Tekper who has proved himself in the past and Dr. Nashiru Issahaku.
