the Central Regional Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have accused Charles Opoku, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Assin North, of secretly holding an NDC membership card.

The accusation was made at a press conference held today at the NDC’s regional office in Cape Coast.

According to Prof. Richard Kofi Asiedu, the Central Regional Chairman of the NDC, Charles Opoku had applied to join the NDC before the Assin North by-election with the intention of becoming the party’s parliamentary candidate.

However, when the NDC leadership insisted that he follow the party’s succession plan, Opoku allegedly switched to the NPP, knowing that the NPP lacked strong political principles.

“This is a clear indication that Charles Opoku is a man without principles, willing to betray his own party to achieve his goals,” Prof. Asiedu stated.

“He is selfish and opportunistic, and such a character should not be entrusted to lead Assin North.”

Prof. Asiedu went further to label Opoku a “political prostitute” and sarcastically invited him to come and collect his NDC membership card, which he claimed was “ready and waiting.”

On a more serious note, Prof. Asiedu called on the people of Assin North to reject Opoku and vote for the NDC’s parliamentary candidate, James Gyakye Quayson, and presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, instead.

“The NPP has failed the people of Assin North and Ghana as a whole. They promised the world but delivered nothing. It’s time for a change,” Prof. Asiedu declared.

During the 2023 Assin North by-election campaign, NDC National Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi revealed that Charles Opoku had initially approached NDC executives, seeking to represent the party.

After his request was denied, Opoku reportedly turned to the NPP, where he was ultimately accepted.
