Broadcast journalist Bridget Otoo has expressed her frustration with the Electoral Commission (EC), calling out its handling of recent issues regarding the ballot papers for the Eastern and Western Regions.
Otoo, who has been vocal in her criticism of the EC, described their actions as “beyond incompetence” and accused the Commission of arrogance and a lack of accountability.
In a post shared on X formally twitter, Otoo wrote, “I have been trying to find the words to describe this very Electoral Commission. It is beyond incompetence, they are arrogant and unapologetic.
To think they are using state resources to do all this nonsense.”
The comments come in the wake of the EC’s announcement that it had ordered a recall and reprinting of ballot papers after a leakage was detected in the original batch.
The issue arose when National Security informed the Commission that a defaced ballot paper had been taken from Checkpoint Printing Limited Printing House.
In response, the EC postponed special voting in the Eastern and Western Regions, now rescheduled for Thursday, December 5, ahead of the general election on Saturday, December 7.
Speaking at an emergency news conference, Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the EC, reassured the public that the Commission is committed to ensuring transparency and maintaining a credible electoral process.
She urged voters and candidates to remain calm and cooperate as the Commission works to resolve the issue.
