The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed the ongoing deployment of its personnel to strategic locations nationwide in support of the Ghana Police Service (GPS) for the peaceful conduct of the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
In a statement issued by the Department of Public Relations at Burma Camp, the GAF emphasized that this deployment is purely for standby support to maintain peace and order during the electoral process.
The public has been urged not to be alarmed by the movement of military personnel in their localities.
GAF clarified that no military personnel would be stationed at polling stations, reiterating that the primary responsibility for election security rests with the Ghana Police Service.
The military will only intervene upon the request of the GPS to address any emerging security concerns.
This collaborative approach, GAF stated, is designed to ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of the elections while upholding law and order.
The statement also encouraged Ghanaians to exercise their civic rights responsibly, cooperate with security personnel, and avoid any actions that could disrupt the peace.
“GAF remains committed to safeguarding the stability and sovereignty of the nation while protecting the integrity of the election process,” the statement concluded.
The Ghana Armed Forces assured the public of its dedication to maintaining a secure and stable environment throughout the electoral period.
