An alleged secret ballot paper thumbprinting syndicate has been busted at the Whyte Gate Lodge in the Ga South municipality.
According to reports, the heightened presence of military men at the hotel raised an alarm of a suspected syndicate thumbprinting ballot papers in the hotel under the guard of armed soldiers.
It was alleged that the ballot papers being thumb printed are headed to the Awutu Senya East constituency, where Mavis Hawa Koomson is Member of Parliament (MP).
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the area after hearing the rumors quickly filed a complaint at the Ga South police station, invading the hotel with some policemen.
Journalists on site followed the police men and NDC members to the hotel but were threatened and prevented access to the hotel by the armed soldiers to confirm the allegations.
The policemen who went with the NDC members who filed the complaint had to call for reinforcement to carry out their investigation. The reinforcement upon arrival also faced intense opposition from the soldiers.
The issue escalated further when the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the GA South Municipal Assembly, Joseph Nyarni Stephen arrived at the Whyte Gate Lodge.
According to journalists present, the MCE attacked them and asked them to leave the hotel premises.
The police have finally gained access to the hotel premises carrying out an investigation to ascertain the veracity of the allegation.
