The information gathered alleges that State Institutions have begun to give out appointments and promotions like “Ayigbe toffee” following the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) embarrassing defeat in the 2024 elections.
State Institutions fingered in these include the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) the Bank of Ghana (BoG), the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), and the Ghana National Gas Company Limited (GNGCL).
According to a letter in circulation, from the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, the Director General has reassigned three medical officers effective Monday, January 6, 2025, Dr Osei Kuffuor, Afreh, Dr Paulina Clara Ofori, and Dr John Ekow Otoo, as Regional Directors of Health Service, for Central, Bono East and Oti Regions.
It has also been alleged that the Bank of Ghana has issued about 150 appointment letters to individuals. According to the information gathered from Ghana Chronicles these 150 individuals have been given an appointment and are to start work on December 23.
At COCOBOD, sources suggest old staff members quickly have their appointments confirmed, while others are allegedly being posted to positions for which they are without qualifications.
Reports from SSNIT allege that SSNIT officials are assigning staff to new roles in an uncoordinated manner. A SSNIT worker shared, “New staff, are being posted to various departments without explanation.”
The sudden recruitment spree in these State Institutions is raising serious questions many Ghanaians are quizzing whether it is a genuine attempt to tackle unemployment or a careful thoughtful plan to complicate the Mahama Jane Naana administration’s payroll management.
Many government critics see this as a ploy to balloon the public payroll before President-elect, John Mahama is sworn into office on January 7, 2025.
