Professor Ransford Gyampo has delivered a scathing critique of President Akufo-Addo, calling him the “worst president” of Ghana’s Fourth Republic.
According to him the NPP government has failed the Ghanaian people on nearly every front, and the party’s ambition to “Break the 8” is nothing more than a reflection of arrogance and impunity.
In an interview, Gyampo compared Akufo-Addo’s leadership unfavorably with that of former President John Dramani Mahama, describing Akufo-Addo’s tenure as even worse.
“We had a dead goat in Mahama, but we have a ‘deader’ goat in this president,”.
“The difference is that Mahama at least acknowledged the challenges, but Akufo-Addo refuses to engage with the people’s concerns.”
Gyampo criticized the NPP’s focus on securing a third consecutive term despite what he described as the government’s abysmal performance.
He pointed out the worsening economic conditions under Akufo-Addo’s leadership, citing the rising cost of living, high fuel prices, the depreciating cedi, and persistent utility price hikes.
“Despite the economic hardships, the poverty, and the public’s frustration, the NPP is focused on breaking the 8.
This is a government that does not listen to the people,” he said.
“Even Jerry Rawlings, who wasn’t a fan of multiparty democracy, knew how to listen. When people protested the VAT, he took action. But Akufo-Addo ignores the people’s calls for relief,”.
“This government never listens, and that has been one of its biggest failures.”
Gyampo also expressed frustration over the NPP’s attitude toward governance, accusing them of prioritizing electioneering over addressing the country’s real issues.
“It seems like the party is more concerned with winning elections than with governing well. This is bad governance, and the people are suffering as a result.”
