The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama has been declared the winner of the 2024 elections presidential elections in Ghana.
Today we look at John Mahama’s five major promises he made during the campaign season to Ghanaians.
Many Ghanaians are looking forward to John Mahama being sworn in as the new president of Ghana on 7 January 2025 to reset the country after he received a major endorsement from Ghanaians in the December polls.

- The 24-hour economic policy
John Mahama announced the 24-hour economy as their game-changer policy going into the 2024 elections, the policy is meant to extend the productivity of work from daytime into night to afford opportunities to business owners and consumers. The policy seeks to create more jobs for the unemployed Ghanaian youths.
- Scrapping nuisance taxes
John Mahama promised to scrap the 10% levy on betting, emissions levy, E-levy, COVID levy, and import duty on vehicles, and equipment imported into Ghana.
- Improving the Free SHS
On numerous Campaign platforms, John Mahama rejected the NPP’s allegation of wanting to cancel the FREE SHS policy, according to John Mahama he intends to make the Free SHS better by scraping the double track system and also giving full authority to Headmasters or Headmistress in acquiring food for their respective schools.
- Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL)
John Mahama promised Ghanaians an Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL), the initiative seeks to track down and retrieve all state assets looted under the Akufo-Addo Bawumia government to develop the country.
- Restoration of revoked banking licenses
Mahama during the NDC manifesto launch promised to restore the licenses of the Banks that were wrongly revoked during the financial sector cleanup under the Akufo-Addo Bawumia government led by Ken-Ofori Atta.
Meanwhile, President-elect John Dramani Mahama leading up to the 2024 elections also revealed a detailed 25-point plan as his main concern for the first 120 days as president.
On August 24, 2024, A document, titled “Mahama’s First 120 Days Social Contract with the People of Ghana,” was released as part of the NDC’s manifesto launch.
