Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Dakoa Newman, has assured caterers under the Ghana School Feeding Programme that their term three payments will begin processing tomorrow.
This follows protests by caterers who had stormed the Ministry’s premises in Accra, demanding payment of their outstanding arrears.
The protests were triggered by the caterers’ dissatisfaction with the government’s decision to pay their arrears in tranches, which they claim has caused them financial strain, having pre-financed the programme.
They also criticized the delayed payments and threatened further demonstrations if their outstanding payments were not settled.
Addressing their concerns, Newman explained that the caterers were informed that the third-term salaries would be paid tomorrow.
She reassured them that the Ministry had worked diligently with the Controller and the Bank of Ghana to ensure timely payments.
She also mentioned that the first-term arrears were in the final stages of processing and would be released once internal procedures at the School Feeding Secretariat were completed.
Newman acknowledged that some caterers remained skeptical, but she had met with their representatives and expressed confidence that the payments would proceed smoothly.
She assured the caterers that the government was committed to resolving the issue and ensuring that they receive the full payments they are owed.
