President-elect, John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has pledged to fight corruption tooth and nail.
The President-elect says he will investigate numerous scandals which have rocked the outgoing Akufo-Addo led administration.
Although these scandals are countless, John Mahama has chosen to focus on 10 key ones.
1. The killing of eight persons during election 2020: President-elect John Mahama prior to the elections promised to investigate the killing of eight persons during the 2020 elections. The 8 lost their lives from gunshots allegedly fired by military personnel during the elections.
2. African games expenditure: the NDC has promised to ensure there is accountability over government’s expenditure at the 13th African games held in Ghana. Following the end of the games, it was disclosed that government paid $3million to GBC and spent $15million on feeding athletes.
3. PDS scandal: John Mahama plans to investigate the PDS scandal which ended in government losing $190m due to alleged fraudulent activities in the power distribution agreement.
4. Illegal sole-sourced contracts: the NDC will investigate illegal sole-sourced contracts awarded under the Akufo-Addo administration, targeted at uncovering any and all instances of corruption.
5. Sky train: the NDC seeks to demand answers regarding a $2million investment for a sky train project in Accra.
6. Agyapa Royalties deal: the controversial Agyapa Royalties deal involved the monetizing of the country’s gold royalties. This deal will be scrutinized for potential conflicts of interest and lack of transparency.
7. Ambulance spare parts: MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says the NDC will investigate a scandal involving more than $34.9 million authorized by former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta for purchasing spare parts for ambulances.
8. Commission of enquiry into state lands: President-elect John Mahama has pledged to establish a commission of inquiry to investigate the alleged misappropriation of state lands.
9. COVID-19 expenditure: the NDC plans to thoroughly investigate Ghana’s management and expenditure related to the COVID-19 pandemic, which include procurement processes and allocation of funds.
10. Appearance fee: the NDC government will conduct a full scale investigation into Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ documentary titled “Galamsey Economy” in which a Minister of State, Charles Adu Boahen allgedly demanded a $200,000 token for Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s support as appearance fee.
