President Akufo-Addo has chastised political parties and actors who are trying to sow religious and tribal contempt ahead of the elections.
According to the president, Ghana has always been a county which is tolerant and has enjoyed long lasting peace because of coexistence amongst all tribes and religions.
Addressing issues of campaign messages targeted at the religious background of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, he said, “Are Muslims not humans? Ghana is a country high in tolerance and accepts all be it Christians, Muslims and we can all stay in peace and togetherness.”
Akufo-Addo lashed at persons who seek to cause division amongst Ghanaians, saying, “we don’t want malicious conflict and strife in Ghana. We want religious harmony. We are one people and want no division. We don’t want people, who will bring divisive language in our political landscape.”
The president described persons who seek to sow division on religious ethnic and tribal lines as “nation wreckers.”
He advised communicators and supporters of the various political parties to keep mute if they have no message for Ghanaians rather than engage in the politics of religion and tribes.
“Ghana is far ahead of that (tribal and religious politics) and that is why we are beacon of peace, stability of democratic engagement in the whole of Africa. We don’t want someone who will bring division to destroy our nation,” he reiterated.
He urged Ghanaians to turn out in their numbers to vote Dr. Bawumia as Ghana’s next president on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
