The Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has accused the government of mismanaging an $11.5 billion loan facility acquired over the past eight years, which he believes could have transformed the country’s infrastructure development.
Citing examples from his own administration, Mahama highlighted a $3.5 billion loan that was used to finance key infrastructure projects, such as the expansion of Tema Harbour, the construction of Terminal 3 at Kotoka International Airport, and other initiatives aimed at boosting the nation’s growth.
He made these remarks while addressing the Muslim community during a special prayer service at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in the Ashanti Region.
His comments were in response to the recent approval of $360 million to Ghana under the $3 billion Extended Credit Facility by the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The approval follows the successful completion of Ghana’s third review under the program, bringing the total disbursements from the Extended Credit Facility to $1.92 billion.
