The Western Regional Chairman and Spokesperson for the PNC grassroots members has made a strong statement distancing the rank and file of the party from the so-called decision to form an alliance with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2024 general elections.
According to the grassroots, the decision was made without proper consultation with party members.
Regional chairmen and secretaries were reportedly invited to a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, only to be blindsided by the announcement of the alliance.
They claim that neither regional chairmen nor secretaries were given the opportunity to discuss the matter with their constituency executives before the decision was made.
The grassroots further emphasized that any decision to form an alliance with another political party must be ratified through a National Congress of the PNC, which did not happen in this case.
They argue that the previous National Congress did not approve such an alliance, and therefore, the party’s national leaders do not have the authority to make such decisions on behalf of the party.
Moreover, the grassroots raised concerns about the lack of transparency regarding any material support the NDC might have provided to the PNC, questioning the basis of the alliance.
The PNC grassroots also expressed frustration with what they see as an imposition of the decision on the wider membership.
They contend that the move does not represent the collective will of the party and was made without any proper voting or consultation.
The grassroots rejected what they describe as an attempt to sell out the party and made it clear that they will not support any leader whose actions undermine the PNC’s integrity.
