Deputy Commissioner of the Electoral Commission of Ghana Dr. Asare Bossman has shared that to vote on election day you don’t actually need your voters ID.
He emphasized in an interview on TV3’s New Day show that, then Voters ID enhances efficiency and speed of the electoral process but it is not actually a necessary tool needed. He shared that without the Voters ID, one can still go their respective polling station and go through the name referencing procedure to get your name verified to proceed.
He mentioned that, Voters are to take note to ensure that they go through all the necessary protocols in order to ensure that they are not unlawfully denied their political right to vote for their preferred candidate. He added that it is right to ensure thoroughly that your name is referenced and found using your surname before you proceed to launch any complaint or cause chaos.
He urged all Voters who are eligible but seem to have misplaced their IDs not to panic and sit home but rather should be bold and queue up at their polling stations and make sure they get their names verified and go ahead to vote. He reiterated that the elections are taking place on December 7 for the general public while the Special Voting takes place on December 2.
