A video of galamsey activity happening in the Ahafo Ano areas has popped up on social media.
According to an X user using the name StopGalamseyNow, the video he shared was taken on 1 November 2024.
In the viral video, a large some of the galamseyers were captured busily working on their galamsey site which has devastated the state on the land.
In a post in X he wrote, “Yofi Grant, Oppong Nkrumah, Bawumia and all the NPP topshots drink VOSS water or other imported bottle water. They damaging our waterbodies and drinking imported water with their families and cronies. Vote wisely. We took this video just yesterday at the Ahafo Ano Areas”.
The water bodies in Ghana have been destroyed by illegal mining activities, which have introduced harmful chemicals into them (water bodies).
There has also been research indicating that Ghana may soon import drinking water if the galamsey menace is left unchecked.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has since in a press statement dated October 9, 2024, directed the Minister for Defense to deploy additional military forces to intensify the ongoing “Operation Halt”, which aims to curb illegal mining activities.
However, galamsey activities are still ongoing despite Operation Halt being in existence again.
