The chieftaincy conflict in Bawku was resurrected when eight (8) people were killed after a group of armed men, reported to be wielding AK-47 rifles, blocked the Bolgatanga-Tamale Highway near Gbimsi, in the North East region.

They set two (2) vehicles ablaze and attacked passengers in a violent incident linked to the ongoing Bawku chieftaincy conflict.

According to reports, the attackers halted vehicles and interrogated passengers in search of individuals from Bawku, who were their primary targets.

The events unfolded not long after chief Alhaji Seidu Abagre, one of the people laying claim to the Bawku chieftaincy title returned to Bawku after the Kumasi High Court revoked his arrest warrant on October 17, 2024.
Following the incident, more lives were claimed, leading to heightened security presence in the town, with a curfew being imposed on residents.

In need developments to ensure safety and calm, Mamprusi’s have been escorted out of the town.
