The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has made an urgent call to the government for the immediate construction of a sea defence wall at Gbegbesie-Shiabu in Dansoman to protect residents from the devastating effects of tidal waves.

In an emotional interview, Owusu-Ekuful expressed deep concern over the growing destruction caused by tidal waves, which have displaced numerous families in her constituency.

She highlighted the severe impact of the waves, which have already submerged key areas of the community, including roads and homes.

“The sea is wreaking havoc. The places we campaigned in 2020 are now submerged,” she said.

“The main road in the community, which we worked hard to asphalt in 2020, is at risk of being washed away.

If the government doesn’t urgently extend the sea defence wall beyond Akweteiman, communities along the coastline will continue to suffer.”

Her call comes as Dansoman faces repeated flooding and tidal wave damage.

In 2021, six communities, including Glefe, Ebenezer Down, Shiabu, and Gbegbesie, were submerged after heavy rains.

Owusu-Ekuful stressed that without immediate action, the threat to lives and property in these areas will only increase.

She emphasized the critical need for the government to act quickly to protect the residents of Dansoman from the twin dangers of tidal waves and flooding
