2022 cohort of the Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers from 46 public Colleges of Education across nine regions has raised serious concerns about delayed staff IDs and unpaid salaries.
Despite being posted by the government to various schools and actively working as Ghana Education Service (GES) recruits since August, nearly three months later they are yet to receive staff identification numbers, let alone their first paychecks.
In a statement, the teachers highlighted the severe challenges they are facing, with many enduring hunger and health issues like ulcers due to the financial strain of working without pay.
the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education on July 4, 2024 received authorization from the Finance Ministry to begin the recruitment process for the 2022 batch of trained teachers who graduated from public colleges of education.
This initiative, according to a GES press release, is targeted at teachers with a first degree from a public college, who completed National Service, passed the National Teacher Licensure Examination, and have no outstanding exams or referrals.
Eligible candidates who meet these requirements are now encouraged to apply, but for those already at their posts, the urgency of resolving salary and ID issues remains critical.
The teachers are calling on GES to expedite these processes to ease their hardships and ensure stability in the education sector.
