A Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Bossman Asare, has said there was no cause for an alarm regarding the broken seals in the Eastern region.
Dr. Bossman Aasre noted that they saw the broken seals and they were like this is not something that should even create any news attention.
According to him, he was happy the Police later issued a statement that everything had been resolved, and per what their regional director also told them there was no cause for alarm.
Speaking on Newsfile, Dr. Bossman Asare explained, “What happened was that when we sent the ballot to the regional police armories a few days before the elections we transport them to the district, and I believe the Koforidua incident the transportation of the ballot from Koforidua to Mpraeso constituency and for each bag containing the ballots you can have as many as seven seals depending on the number of political parties that put their seals”.
“And in this instance about two of the bags had their seals broken but others were still intact and you know we have our team in place they checked it, they did all the checks and they realized that nothing had been tampered with, we saw it and we were like this is not something which should even create any news attention”, he detailed.
Bossman Asare further added, “The most important point is that all this ballot before we even send them at the polling station the agents of the parties are aware the party executives are aware, they know what is going to polling station A, and what is going to polling station B, so when these things happen we should take our time and let look at the processes for resolving them”.
“I was happy the Police later issued a statement that everything had been resolved and per what our regional director also told us there is no cause for alarm”, he added.
Dr. Bossman Asare added the EC is confident going into the elections and is expecting Ghanaians the over 18 million registered voters to go out there in their numbers.
He revealed on December 7, 2020, they had a turnout of a little over 79% and are hopeful Ghanaians will go out there in their numbers so that they can even do more than 80%.
