A Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Bossman Asare, has reiterated that the 2024 elections will be taking place on December 7, 2024.
According to Bossman Asare, all the necessary procedures have been put in place to ensure a smooth, fair, transparent, and credible electoral process on December 7.
Bossman Asare was reacting to a viral video of Oheneba Nana Asiedu of the Wontumi FM who in a two-minute video claimed that the Electoral Commission has decided to split the election into two days.
Oheneba Nana Asiedu claimed on 7th December, Ghanaians would only be allowed to vote for candidates in positions 1 to 7 on the ballot paper, and on the following day, they could vote for candidates in positions 8 to 13.
However, the Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission in an interview with TV3 on Monday, November 25, 2024, has dismissed his claims, saying, “So again, if your voter ID card is missing, please still go to your polling station on election day, you will be able to vote. And let me also state that the elections are taking place, the presidential elections are taking place on December 7th”.
He further detailed, that Ghanaians do not need their voter ID card to vote on election day.
“To vote on election day, you don’t need your voter’s ID, if you have your voter ID card it makes the process very easy, but if you don’t have one, when you go to the polling station, at each polling station there five officials, the first person you will encounter is the name reference officer, the name reference officer has a list, of all the people who have registered at that particular polling station”, he emphasized.
