The running mate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has claimed the NDC Presidents of Mills and Mahama for 8 years never lived in the Jubilee House because it was close to a Zongo.

Speaking on a campaign platform he claimed, “When President Kufuor built the Jubilee House for all presidents and President Mills and Mahama came they said Jubilee House was near Nima so they would not leave there, who live in Nima, Zongo people, for 8 years they never lived in the Jubilee house because the Jubilee House was near Zongo, and Zongo is Muslim”.

In 2008 during the NDC campaigns ahead of the 2008 elections, former President John Evans Atta Mills and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) claimed that the reconstruction of the Jubilee House occurred when Ghanaians were going through tough times.

Brigadier General Nunoo Mensah the National Security Advisor to the President at the time also in a publication by Accra based, Peace FM is quoted to have said, “The newly constructed seat of government; the Golden Jubilee House is not safe enough to serve as the seat of government”.

In another publication by Peace FM, the late Atta Mills reiterated that he would only move to the Jubilee House when he got full clearance from national security to do so.

Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, the director of operations under the late President Atta Mills’s administration revealed, “President Mills never worked or lived in the Jubilee House. In contrast, President Mahama worked from there (Jubilee House) but didn’t reside there. Similarly, Presidents Kufuor and Akufo-Addo worked from the Jubilee House but maintained separate residences.”

According to the information gathered from old publications, the late Atta Mills and John Mahama never stayed in the Jubilee House based on security concerns, not because it was close to a zongo as claimed by Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
