The Member of Parliament for Juaboso, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has called for the immediate removal of 33 New Patriotic Party (NPP) executives from the Electoral Commission’s (EC) electoral officials list in the Juaboso constituency.
Akandoh has accused the EC of undermining Ghana’s democracy and acting in favor of the ruling NPP.
Speaking to the media in Juaboso, Akandoh claimed that the EC had abandoned its constitutional duty of neutrality and was instead serving as an extension of the NPP’s campaign operations.
His remarks follow the recent transfer of the Juaboso District Electoral Officer and the appointment of several new polling officers, many of whom, he alleges, have strong ties to the NPP.
Akandoh specifically pointed to the replacement of the District Electoral Officer with an appointee allegedly linked to the Deputy Chairperson of the EC, Dr. Bossman Asare.
He believes this move is part of a broader strategy to manipulate the upcoming elections in favor of the NPP.
The MP also raised concerns about the appointment of polling officers who, according to him, have openly endorsed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate, as well as the party’s parliamentary candidate for Juaboso.
In addition, Akandoh cited violations of Constitutional Instrument 127 (C.I. 127), which regulates electoral conduct.
He pointed out that the EC had failed to publish the required photographs of the polling officers and that the contact details of the 159 officials listed were incomplete or inaccurate, with some phone numbers even duplicated.
Regulation 19(6) (a&b) of C.I. 127 mandates the publication of names, photographs, and contact details of presiding officers and polling assistants at least 10 days before an election, to be distributed to political parties. However, Akandoh noted that this procedure had not been followed in Juaboso.
