Property worth thousands of Ghana cedis were destroyed on Sunday, November 24, when a devastating fire gutted several shops at the Agbogbloshie Market in Accra.

The blaze, which erupted in the evening, quickly spread through the market, causing significant damage to goods and infrastructure.

Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), responding swiftly to the emergency, were able to bring the fire under control after hours of battling the flames.

Units from both the Makola and Circle fire stations worked together to prevent the fire from spreading further.

ADO1 Alex King Nartey, in a Facebook Live update, confirmed that, fortunately, there were no casualties reported. However, the destruction was extensive, with many traders facing substantial losses.

“The damage is significant, but we’re grateful there were no lives lost,” he said, highlighting the quick response of the fire service in preventing greater harm.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, and investigations are ongoing

. Authorities have assured that efforts are underway to support those who lost their livelihoods in the blaze.
