Police arrest 26 people brandishing toy guns

The Ghana Police Service has arrested 26 people for brandishing and firing toy guns in public.

Social media in a flash of a week was experiencing a bizarre trend of young guys and ladies in the Ashanti Region rekindling their childhood memories by purchasing toy guns and shooting each other like in the action movies.

The trend caught the attention of security Analysts and Experts who raised alarm over the growing trend.

Within days the trend caught up with Accra Youth in Ashaiman who caused the price of the toy gun to significantly move from GH₵25 to GH₵100 in a short while of time.

According to the Police service statement the 26 suspects are currently assisting with investigations and will be put before the court to face.

Part of the police statement reads, “Police special operations are currently underway to arrest others involved in this act which is becoming a trend in some parts of the country”.

“We, hereby, caution the youth to desist from this act as it constitutes the offense of offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace contrary to section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) amongst others”.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has revealed a quantity of toy guns has been recovered from these suspects as part of a Police Investigation into the toy gun trend.
